3rd Generation Nissan Qashqai
2021 – 2024
|
The third generation of the Nissan Qashqai was released in South Africa in September 2022. As with its predecessors, the design of the new Qashqai was led by Nissan Design Europe in Paddington, London, while the engineering was directed by the Nissan Technical Centre Europe in Cranfield, Bedfordshire.
The hugely influential crossover is the first Nissan in Europe to come optionally with an e-Power hybrid drive (not available in SA) supporting Nissan’s goal of achieving 50% electrified sales in Europe by 2024.
The third-generation Nissan Qashqai has become a hit not only in the UK (UK’s best-selling car in 2022) but also across much of Europe and South Africa, thanks to its next-generation Nissan Connect Qashqai technology and numerous safety and convenience features.
Did You Know? The third-generation Nissan Qashqai was discontinued in SA in mid-2024 after 17 years on the market. It is the first Nissan to utilise the new Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance CMF-C platform, making it 35mm longer, 25mm taller, and 32mm wider than the previous model.
2024 Facelift (Not available in SA)
The 3rd generation of the popular Nissan Qashqai received styling improvements and technology upgrades in April 2024. The facelifted Qashqai key changes include a new-look front end inspired by Japanese samurai helmets. It also features redesigned headlights and taillights, upgraded parking aids, a Google-based infotainment system and new seat designs to compete with a raft of family SUV rivals. A new N-Design trim level also joins the Qashqai’s line-up. |

2nd Generation Nissan Qashqai
2013 – 2020
|
The second-generation Nissan Qashqai was first introduced to the driving public in London on November 7, 2013. The event was dubbed #NextGen by Nissan and it was streamed live across the globe. There was immediate interest in this second-generation Qashqai, which prompted Nissan to premiere this new look Qashqai at the Brussels International Motor Show in January 2014. Within weeks it went on sale in the UK and was launched over a 6-month period across the globe, including here in South Africa.
Please note that due to the innovative design, stylish looks and advanced Nissan safety features found in the second generation used Qashqai, there was a high demand for the following models:
- Nissan Qashqai 2020
- Nissan Qashqai 2019
- Nissan Qashqai 2018
- Nissan Qashqai 2017
- Nissan Qashqai 2016
This has helped to create a good demand for these vehicles, which has ensured they retain great resale value.
Did You Know? The Second-Generation Qashqai is not sold in Nissan’s home country of Japan. Instead, the Nissan Juke and the New Nissan X-Trail have replaced the previous generation’s Dualis. |

1st Generation Nissan Qashqai
2006 – 2013
|
The Nissan Qashqai’s history dates back to 2006 when the First-Generation Qashqai was built at Nissan’s “Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK” (NMUK) plant in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear from the moment it went into production in December 2006. But the driving world’s love affair with the Qashqai predated this because it was in 2004 that we all first got a glimpse at what was to become one of the best-selling Nissan vehicles of all time at the 2006 Paris Motor Show.
Over its entire run, the First-Generation Qashqai sold more than 1.24 million units in Europe alone (which is a Nissan record), over the span of its seven-and-a-half-year production run. Because of the sheer number of Qashqai’s sold globally, and specifically here in South Africa, this first-generation made up the majority of used Nissan Qashqais available for sale. This included some of the most popular year models such as the:
- Nissan Qashqai 2013 Model
- Nissan Qashqai 2012 Model
- Nissan Qashqai 2011 Model
- Nissan Qashqai 2010 Model
- Nissan Qashqai 2009 Model
Originally built on an all-new platform, the Qashqai was priced to slot just below the X-Trail in the New Nissan Vehicle Range. It was targeted at buyers who were not looking to purchase an SUV, yet also wanted a more dynamic design in a larger vehicle that had a modern family safety focus.
First Generation Qashqai Facelift
The massive appeal of the Qashqai led to a facelift in 2010, and engine upgrades in 2011. Both of these vehicle improvements saw the sales life of the Qashqai extended to the 2013/2014 year, after which the Second-Generation Qashqai (see below) was launched. It is an interesting fact to note that in Australia the first-generation Qashqai remained on sale after the launch of the next generation Qashqai, as it was originally named the Nissan Dualis.
Did You Know? This generation of Nissan Qashqai was the very first one styled by London based Nissan Design Europe Team. Additionally, it underwent engineering development in Cranford, Bedfordshire at the Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) |
