| The Datsun GO marked the revival of the Datsun brand, named after the “Dat-Go,” the first-ever Datsun car from the early 20th century. Designed with developing markets in mind, it was introduced in 2014 and became available in countries like India, Indonesia, and South Africa.
Built on Nissan’s V platform, shared with the K13 Nissan Micra, the GO inherited several components from its sibling, making it a cost-effective option for budget-conscious drivers. Production of the Datsun GO officially ended in 2022 as Nissan discontinued the Datsun brand. The GO was powered by a 1.2-litre (1,198 cc), three-cylinder DOHC petrol engine with electronic fuel injection. This unit delivered 50 kW to 57 kW of power (depending on the market) and 104 Nm of torque, offering a balance of efficiency and performance. Transmission options included a five-speed manual gearbox from launch, with a CVT variant introduced in 2018 in some regions. DID YOU KNOW? The Datsun GO was the first new Datsun model launched worldwide since 1986. The vehicle received the 2016 Frost & Sullivan “Value-For-Money Car of the Year” award in Indonesia. A crossover-inspired version called the Datsun Cross was launched in Indonesia in 2018 but was not available in South Africa. Production of the Datsun GO ended in 2022 when Nissan phased out the Datsun brand globally. |
